The Side Hustle : Nothing to be ashamed about

The Side Hustle

The Side Hustle! So many of us do it, but a lot of us are afraid to talk about it.

“If I see another multi-level marketing scheme, I’m deleting you from my friends list!”

Anyone ever heard that… or said that? Yeah, I have a time or two. As a matter of fact, I’ve been the one annoyed by people’s side hustle, and the one annoying people with my side hustle.

Alright, I’m going to make two commitments today that I think everyone should commit with me. Ready? Repeat after me:

  1. I will not shame other people for trying to make a living!
  2. I will not be ashamed of trying to make a living!

Here’s the deal. We are all trying to live. We are all trying to enjoy that life we are living. So, I have a confession to make. Ready for it?

I’m an independent Beach Body Coach. I love Beach Body on Demand. You can do it from anywhere in the world, and it’s significantly cheaper than the gym.  I really love Shakeology, especially the café latte vegan version. It’s the best tasting shake on the market! I’m currently obsessed with the LIIFT4 workout.

You see what I just did there?

I just unashamedly plugged my side hustle. Actually, that’s not true.  Part of me feels guilty for plugging it. I feel ashamed for making people, not just people, not strangers, but my friends feel pressure to read this and buy or not buy what I’m selling.

Negative Side Hustle Thoughts

“Are people going to hate me for this?” “Are people embarrassed about my side hustle?” “Should I even post this at all?” ” I’m going to delete this.”

This is absurd. The thing is, I actually make a good living without the side hustle. I’m one of the lucky ones who can pay his bills this year with singing. I am also in a two income household.  I do this side hustle because I love how I feel when I’m in shape, and I hope others will feel that as well. Being in show business and being in shape is a great tool to add to my marketability.

One year I won’t be as lucky and money will be tighter, and I hope I have things like this to fall back on. I hope I don’t say “Man, I wish I had tried harder and not been ashamed to make money.”

If you are reading this, you are probably one of my friends in the arts…

MAKE YOUR MONEY! PAY YOUR BILLS! ENJOY YOUR LIFE!

I hope we can support each other in any way that we can. And listen, if you need mascara, buy it from a friend with a side hustle. If you need a cool vintage necklace, buy from a friends Ebay or Etsy store, (I might have one of those… more info coming on that), if you need fitness products, don’t go to GNC (even though I shop there too much) try a friend if it’s in your budget.

The great thing about the arts community, is we support.

So, get out there. I want to see what you have to offer. If you drive for Uber or Lyft , heck yes. If you nanny, or pick up odd jobs, great! I’m gonna be needing a nanny early next year, so I want to know you are out there! Let’s make money and be proud of it!
