The 10X rule: Part 1

Alright you all. So I started listening to this book called the 10X rule by Grant Cardone, and it has got my brain going a million miles an hour.

Who is Grant Cardone?

So Grant Cardone is this super rich entrepeneur, author, business man, and motivational speaker. He’s written books on real estate, how to become a millionaire, etc. Here’s his website if you want to check him out. I bought his audible book because I had some credits and Audible was doing a 2 for 1 sale on self-help books. His big book out right now is this one called the 10X rule. I just wanted to share my thoughts on it.

What is the 10X Rule?

Well, first off, I thought it’d be some magic formula that makes me more money and more success by just willing it into my life or changing my attitude…It’s not!

The 10X rule basically means WORK 10 TIMES HARDER THAN ANYONE ELSE!

There is a caveat, though. You should also set your goals much higher than you normally would or are comfortable with than usual. For instance, if you want to make $1000 per week, why not 10X rule it and set your goal for $10,000, or even $100,000!

It’s not always money as well. If you want to play with your kid for an hour a week, make it 10 hours a week (I don’t really know what’s appropriate here for children play time, but I’ll find out soon!)

How does this even work?

I don’t know how this works. Let me repeat. I don’t know how this works. And truthfully, I don’t think it is physically possible! I practice my voice around an hour a day, and then I practice memorizing repertoire as needed. So, how in the world can I start using this mindset in my life?

Obviously, i can’t do everything that I want to do 10X more than I do now.

  • 10 hours in the gym
  • 20 hours voice
  • 10 hours repertoire
  • 5 hours meditation
  • And so on…

Using the 10X rule in the literal sense is impossible, but I am going to step it up. And I think it is more of a mindset change. Give 1000 percent more!

How I’m going to use the 10X rule!

So, to impliment this mindset, I am going to double the amount of time on the things I prioritize and see where that takes me. Here are the things I am going to start now and in two months I will write another post called “The 10X rule: Part two” to show how I’ve improved and the problems I’ve had. In order for you, my faithful readers, to hold me accountable, I am going to set my goals here and check them off every day. So here are my next two month goals.

  1. at least 2 gym workouts per day : Morning & night (Weights and Yoga I think)
  2. 2 meditation sessions per day : morning and night (or as needed)
  3. 2 vocal technique work sessions
  4. Doing 2 things I don’t want to do a day that I should!
  5. Writing twice a day. (Blogging, working on book, or journaling)

I know there are more things to do and more things I’m going to do, but these are where I’ll stop so you all keep me accountable.

The approach

Alright, so my approach to this, make a list. There are so many apps online that help with this. I even found one that I love that insults you when you don’t do what you are supposed to, ha, it cracks me up.

Do th 10X rule With Me

Just start with one thing you want to improve. Make sure it is visible. Write it out. Make it something you can physically cross out everyday. Give yourself your favorite treat when you do it. Build that habit. And most of all. BE KIND TO YOURSELF!

I would really love to do this challenge with some other people. Even if it is just for one week, I want to see how it goes for you. Just practice something you want twice as much as usual. If it’s business, make twice as many calls, if it’s friend making, say hi to twice as many people. I am sincerely interested in how far this takes you

Set your goals high!

As the 10X rule states, it is better to fall short of a great goal, than fall short on a small minded goal (I’m paraphrasing).

I really recommend downloading this book, buying it, or listening to it. It’s repetitive. He’s a little annoying. He oversimplifies some things. He’s not incredibly charismatic, but he is motivational as hell and hopefully, he’s right! We’ll see how the next 8 weeks go!

And as always, please subscribe or comment on this post. And enjoy some of my music while you’re at it!
